December 7th

20 minutes on Euskotren to Zarautz
This cute little beach town is on the “El Camino” and walkable from San Sebastian in a few hours.  We went via the local Euskotren.  We just went for a change of scenery and to check out the surf.  It has a nice long surf beach.  We were pleasantly surprised to find it was a market day in the plaza, with many vendors selling their homemade crafts.  The highlight was the grilled octopus pintxos that were better than any we had ever tasted.  We bought some old fashioned looking bottles of honey wine, and water kefer made by a “community” that lives in the mountains nearby.  On the train the cork blew out of the bottle from the pressure with a loud pop…and drew had to chase down the cork, which was launched into the next train car.  It was pretty comical; people were laughing and chattering about it.
